Rhona Bitner lives and works in New York and Paris.
Rhona Bitner explores the parallel between theater and photography – in both one enters a black box and an image appears. Her work is a visual investigation into the experience of theater and spectacle via the static surface of a photograph.
Each aspect of this experience is rigorously observed, studied and inventoried. Individual projects take years to complete. She began with the performer in the spotlight (CIRCUS) continued to the spotlight itself, the curtain and proscenium (STAGE) and has recently completed a monumental series mapping the history of American Rockn’Roll (LISTEN).
Her plan is to examine the craft of the actor in the coming years. Rhona Bitner is carefully constructing a methodical visual compendium on the idea of performance.
