Biography
Working primarily with oil and acrylic, J. Kesin creates paintings of his perception of different subjects. These range from autobiography, literature, general concepts, politics and current affairs.
The subjects of his paintings are often deconstructed into "components", which are then represented on the canvas by layers, playing and creating a play of shapes, lines, opacity and transparency. Analysis, emotion and spontaneity combine in a process of constant conversation with the evolving painting.
His artistic influences include the ideas of simultaneity, cubism and constructivism, as well as the associative abstraction of Gerhard Richter and Howard Hodgkin.
Kesin was born in Hamburg, Germany, where he lived until 1999. During the 1990s he also spent extended periods in Russia and Uzbekistan, following the breakup of the Soviet Union, which added to his experiences and inspirations.
He is now based in London and Valencia.
