Biography

Born in 1984 in Accra, Ghana, Amoako Boafo is renowned for his representation of black bodies, and his intriguing technique of finger painting. The Ghanaian artist studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and in 2017 was awarded the the prestigious Walter Koschatzky Art Prize. Since then he has gone on to exhibit at the Leopold Museum in Vienna, LACMA (Los Angeles) and the Guggenheim in New York.

His work is striking, and typically consists of powerful portraits, full of emotion and feeling. Amoako often utilizes a monotone color palette, isolating his subjects, placing the focus on the raw emotion of the work, or of his muse.
