

Biography
Virginia Ryan was born in Australia in 1956 and currently lives and works in Umbria, Italy. A multidisciplinary artist, she graduated from the National School of the Arts in Australia and Edinburgh, Scotland. Her work focuses on identity, memory and transformation of materials. She is known for working with sourced material which she re-assembles employing a clearly Western-influenced visual language, reusing fabric, found objects and organic material to explore complexities of contemporary society. She has exhibited widely including the Venice Biennial official collateral events, public museums in Europe, Africa, America and Australia, at the Acaya Castle (Lecce-Italy), Museo Pino Pascali in Polignano (Bari-Italy), at DAK'ART the Biennale de l'Art Africain Contemporain in Dakar (Senegal),Galerie Cecile Fakhoury Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), Palmieri Foundation (Lecce-Italy).
