Biography
Born in Gaspé 1983, he lives and works in Quebec City. Trained in visual arts and graphic design at Laval University (Quebec).
For nearly ten years, Hugo Landry has been exploring the effects of colour as vectors of expression, seduction and, above all, joy. His large abstract painting, covered with bands, rainbow or multicoloured splashes; are sometimes rhythms and vibrations, sometimes explosions of energy.
The artist mainly works with the spatula, flat on canvas or on a wooden support. The colour schemes, which it spreads in thick wefts or bursts with dripping, offer joyful prismatic sequences. Control, rigour, and search for balance are part of this treatment which draws on pop and optical art and gestural painting. Here is an original way for the artist to evoke diversity, that of feelings, of beings and of a world that really have nothing uniform.
