The Fausto Mata gallery is organizing a Pierre Célice exhibition until April 10, devoted to his paintings from the 80s and 90s. Pierre Célice's painting is young, colorful and takes us into a world where vital energy is fabulous: reds , yellows, pinks, deep blues, without forgetting a few strident and tangy touches, like a luminous sign, seeking to capture our attention.

The freshness of the colors is all the more remarkable as the colors, pure and unadulterated, are placed side by side on the canvas, like enigmatic signs or powerful architectural forms. What a journey, that of Pierre Célice! Starting from figuration, from still lifes in the 1950s, after a break in the 1960s, he moved to an abstract painting, which aspires to light and large spaces, like American painting.

The artist walks the city, sensitive to the sound and colorful environment, the rhythm of traffic and the vibration of electric light; in this sense he was already doing “Street Art” without knowing it! Sometimes the rhythm calms down and Célice dreams at her window, facing the sky or the sea, a Matissian theme par excellence, from which flow structured but dreamy paintings. The work of Pierre Célice is present in many public collections, national and international museums and a museum dedicated to him in Antwerp, Belgium.
