The Fausto Mata garden-gallery is the fruit of a life devoted to art and artists, with the aim of sharpening the gaze on their creations. The aesthetics of the gallery are varied like my favorites; I gladly exhibit contemporary figuration, lyrical abstraction, abstract landscape artists and I feel close to the “Support-Surface” movement. The works cover the period from the 1950s to the present day. What is similar between O. Debré, Erro, T. Soulié, P. Célice, P. Loste or R. Texier? Quality assuredly! I have met many artists for more than forty years, passionately, and these fellow travelers always give me joy, emotion, while keeping their share of mystery. I had the chance, during my training as an art historian, to meet a professor, Robert Coustet, who was also a huge collector. After 28 years of work in an important gallery in Bordeaux and Paris, I opened my own gallery, where I like to mix young talented artists with recognized and consecrated painters. Being a gallery owner is for me the door open to a myriad of professions and functions: - art critic, - guide lecturer for museum exhibitions, - exhibition curator, - seller of works of art above all, helping collectors to create beautiful sets, and artists to live off their passion. My love of writing led me to collaborate with the magazines "Le Festin" and "Artension", to write two books on Victoire-Elisabeth Calcagni, and to make prefaces of catalogs of Museums or Cultural Centers for Gosti, M Danton, P. Loste, C. Schein, etc. Being a gallery owner means exhibiting works of very high quality, exceptional if possible. Talking about artists, telling their stories, their struggles or their creative discoveries, is a source of wonder for me.
