Galerie-P6-Berlin is pleased to present ‘Nailed-It’, a new series of sculptural ‘threadworks’ on panel by artist Sumit Mehndiratta, also available to be experienced in 3D: https://artspaces.kunstmatrix.com/node/15293805
In the “Nailed It” series, each artwork is a journey of precision and creativity. On carefully selected teakwood panels, Mehndiratta meticulously places nails in geometric and mathematical patterns. This creates a constellation that guides the weaving process, blending logic with artistic intuition.
The threads used are as diverse as the patterns themselves. Cotton, polyester, metallic strands, and woolen yarn in brilliant colors are carefully chosen for each piece depending on the thickness and texture of thread that compliments the predetermined pattern. While some patterns are intentionally calculated, others emerge organically as the creative process unfolds. Each thread is woven by hand, looping around each nail in a rhythmic, almost meditative motion.
The 'Nailed-It’ series is more than just a balance of rumination and creativity. It’s a practice in discipline and skill, where repetition and improvisation coexist. It’s a journey that activates both the logical left side and the intuitive right side of the brain, creating a flowing harmonious balance of the senses. Every piece is a philosophy of the sense, reflecting the dual nature of artistry.
