Galerie-P6-Berlin is pleased to present ‘SPECTRAL REGENERATION’, a new solo exhibition of works by artist Sumit Mehndiratta. The exhibition will be on view until April 30th, 2026.
Through a selection of vibrant abstract compositions, we experience Mehndiratta’s mesmerizing chromatic world through optical journeys into his psyche. The artist’s works are a visual splendour that provoke unique interpretations while subtly commanding attention and awe.
In the 17th century, when Sir Isaac Newton first dispersed light through a prism and beheld the brilliant spectrum that ensued, the perception of the true origins of colour and its meaning were forever changed.
The word spectrum in optics is used to describe the rainbow of colors in visible light after passing through a prism, also known as the electromagnetic spectrum. What we perceive as the colours of the rainbow depends on the wavelengths of light, and each wavelength is a particular colour. The phenomenon of the hues we see is a result of which wavelengths are reflected back to our eyes. These wavelengths of light are the essence of every thing that we perceive in nature and in the greater universe.
This radical colour truth and it’s bond to the visions of nature are what helps to define Mehndiratta’s work, as he explores all facets of the electromagnetic wavelengths in his practice.
The spectrum of his method is also not limited to luminosity, but also materializes through movement and innovation. The artist describes himself as an action painter, as his patterns emerge through his movements. He also creates unique painting tools to realize his ideas if they don’t already exist to suit his needs. Free and flowing with energy, Mehndiratta’s creation process generates large strokes that could almost be interpreted as dance moves if the brushes/painting objects were removed from the equation.
Like a spiritual offering, the works presented in ‘SPECTRAL REGENERATION’ offer the viewer a full experience into the insightful workings of Mendiratta’s subconscious. The result is a magical tandem of mind and body.
