Biography

Beatrice Gibson Nangala was born on the lands of the Mt Doreen farm, located about 400 kilometers northwest of Alice Springs, fairly close to the community of Yuendumu, in the Northern Territory, around 1960.

Her date of birth is unknown because Aboriginal women did not give birth in hospitals, but wherever they happened to be at the time, without recording the date.
Beatrice began painting in 1986 and depicts dreams of the kangaroo, dingo, and emu, native to "her country." She lives in Laramba, south of the Tanami Desert.

She paints with other members of the community who also collect seeds and grains to make jewelry for resale in various galleries. She paints in a traditional style, using dots and symbols, primarily in beautiful earthy tones, on canvas with acrylics, but occasionally uses bolder colors.
