G.W. Bot

Presentation

Born in Pakistan from Australian parents, G.W. BOT has lived in several countries before the age of 20, following her military father.

She studied art in London, Paris and in Australia.

She has been living and working in Canberra since 1985. She has a strong connection with her territory that became the main theme of her work. As the Aboriginal people in Australia have, she also has a totem, the Wombat, a small animal living in the Canberra region. The animal is referred to in French literature as the ?Grand Wam Bot?, and that is the origin of her artist name, G.W. BOT.

She discovered the linocut technique in London, and it became her favorite means of expression. She has also developed a personal calligraphy in which her dreamlike vision of the territory and her extreme sensitivity intermingle.
