Christian Dugardeyn

I was born in Brussels in 1963. As a child, I was drawn to pictorial art. Relentlessly I drew and painted, using whatever medium I could find.

At the end of high school, I hesitate between medicine and the fine arts. I get the prize in chemistry, physics and biology from several schools in Brussels, and encouraged by my teachers, I started to study medicine at the University. My medical degree in hand, I enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts while specializing in medical imaging.

I give free rein to my emotions through different techniques, drawing, painting and sculpture remaining my favorite mediums. My expression is spontaneous, energetic, vital.

Recently, I am mixing elements of medical imagery with my artistic work. Primitive Arts, African art, oceanic art, brut art, children's art strongly influenced me. I find my roots there.

Among contemporary artists, Basquiat, Combas and the free figuration movement, Alechinsky, Appel and the Cobra group, Picasso, Schiele and expressionism, Dubuffet and Art Brut, Street Art, etc. have permeated my work.
