Presentation

Evgeny Batoev has been determined a “discovery" on the Bulgarian art scene. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1988, the artist grew up and studied in London. He graduated the Slade School of Fine Art at University College London. The young painter has exhibited in Sofia and beyond. His most recent solo exhibitions include “Stay away from heaven" (2017) and “Reap what you sow" (2020). His artistic experiments of acrylic painting on both – canvas and textile have produced large-scale, gestural, all-over drip paintings, highly actionable and intensely emotional. All his paintings, no matter which colors, or objects painted, bring a certain energy that makes you believe you can fly. Paintings depicting jungles, cities, machines and living bodies, create the light, airy and apparently endless webs of color and emotions that the painter is reaching towards. Typical for the artist is the changing perspective, figures emerge and transform just as there is no beginning or end. The style Bratoev is developing is a signature one already. Action paintings that challenge your ability to not only see what's beyond, but wish to reach towards. A highly emotional trip over colors and dreams that you wish has no ending.
