Dominic Besner

Canada • 1965

Dominic Besner embraces the vibrations of today's society and reshapes them into artistic forms, somewhere between figuration and abstraction. He doesn't seek to create an ideal.

Biography

Dominic Besner was born in 1965 in North Lancaster, Ontario. Besner completed a bachelor's degree in architecture at the Université de Montréal in 1992. His exposure to academia instilled in him a critical eye that allowed him to define his vision of a human-centered living environment, with a concern for the past, present, and future. Above all, this training led him to discover his true passion, painting, and to consider his profession in such a way as to transform his formal baggage into a pictorial aesthetic of the figure and space, through the artist's gaze, either half-realistic or half-fictional.

The fantastical world he brings to life on canvas is synonymous with the fragility of man, a symbol of the ephemeral nature of life, which touches and worries him. It is in the heart of the city, with its speed and its noises, that Besner draws these vibrations that he modulates in painting. His characters are necessarily imbued with this rapid and intoxicating spirit that the urban center brings to him. They live in the echoes and in the atmosphere of this city that the painter illustrates through colors, lines and patterns.
