“Human expressions are the nerve center of my pictorial message. A look will evoke for me the full weight of the history of a community, a pinch of the nose will make me relive the carefreeness of childhood. I'm going to paint this. Trying to enhance this little piece of visual which alone tells me so much, then blurring things around so that we only see it. The first paintings in this series will seem a little smooth to me, they don't adequately capture the strength of this little thing. So I'm going to explode the outlines. It will be better ... "
