Biography

Draftsman and engraver, Yann Bagot focuses his work on an in situ analysis of nature and the conception of images in the studio. A Parisian, he studied at the Penninghen School of Graphic Arts before joining the National School of Decorative Arts. His work is organized in series defined by a particular intention and a specific graphic tool. “Outdoors, my research focuses on the representation of the landscape, inspired by the deployment of the forces that constitute it. I draw in all weathers, in all seasons, outdoors. The rain, the tide, the sunlight, the heat, the cold, the night bear their imprint on my inks and are the actors in my drawings. It is the physical experience of natural phenomena that carries the artist's gesture and transposes onto paper his fascination with the forces deployed in the landscape. Geology, light, bad weather, cold, heat, all these phenomena carry further the search for materials from a reduced material: Indian ink mixed with salt and water in the Chaos series (including The silkscreen printing for S — M — M) or even the watercolor came about. "Chaos is a series of drawings made on the motif in the heart of a rock formation in the Quellen marsh in Brittany: a granite chaos." It is a real interpretation of the place by the artist - a kind of link between nature and the medium - which allows to obtain in drawing the essential substance of the place.
