Biography

Athena Menekratis (born in 1978 in Cannes) is a French-Greek-Danish artist renowned for her calligraphic portraits that blend ink and visual poetry. A graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, she devotes herself entirely to painting and graphic experimentation.
Her unique approach is based on a double interpretation: at first glance, the viewer sees a face, then discovers that the features are formed from words, taken from song lyrics or film titles.
She creates iconic portraits of figures such as David Bowie, John Lennon, Brigitte Bardot, Mick Jagger, and The Beatles, where text and image merge to create a unique visual language.
Her works are exhibited in galleries such as Galerie Arista in Cannes, The Olympia Gallery in Jamaica, and Galerie Beauchamp in Paris. She also participates in auctions, where her pieces reach an international audience.
Athena Menekratis explores the intersection between folk art, calligraphy and portraiture, offering a poetic and contemporary reading of emblematic figures and placing her approach in a constant dialogue between image and language.
