A painter of blue cacti. "Nature persists where technology overflows."
Denis Verdier was immersed in graphic design for over ten years. A burnout in 2020, compounded by grief, health problems, and fatherhood, led him back to drawing, initially as a way to rebuild himself, then to flourish. This was followed by three years of searching for his style, culminating in a unique universe: blue cacti in broken antique vases, bearing the symptoms of our digital age. It is only natural, after spending ten years in front of a screen, grappling with issues of screen time, sedentary lifestyles, and digital overload, that he would explore these themes in his paintings.
Coming from a background where art wasn't a given, Denis Verdier always felt out of step with established norms (as exemplified by antique vases). He found in the cactus an echo of his own journey: that of a being who adapts to a hostile environment, evolves, and ultimately flourishes. The color blue, omnipresent in his work, brings a note of serenity. It represents a gentle adaptation in a noisy era.
