04 - L'âge de l'ordinateur fixe, 2025

Denis Verdier

In this collection, I seek to explore the relationship between nature and technology. Year after year, I've observed one increasingly encroaching upon the other. So I wanted to revisit each memory where technology entered my life, for better or for worse. From MP3 players to flip phones, from laptops to smartphones: ten canvases, ten personal accounts. Here is the one for this painting:

When the first family computer arrived at the house, a whole new world opened up. The sound of the modem connecting to the internet, getting used to the keyboard, discovering the limited software available on the machine... And of course, video games were always there. Having a computer at home, first for everyone, then just for me, allowed me to express myself beyond the page. I loved drawing as a child, but turning on the computer led me to discover creative software: the early versions of Photoshop and tutorials on blogs. My first steps as a graphic designer began! At the height of that era, I was digitizing my drawings, creating designs in Photoshop for my high school newspaper, using MSN to send winks, checking out my friends' Skyblogs, downloading music on eMule or Limewire to add to iTunes and my iPod... My entire teenage world was starting to revolve around a computer, but it remained anchored to my home. This allowed me to fully enjoy everything the Savoyard countryside had to offer!
