Lisa Otjcaques

Born in 1992 in Sarthe, and surrounded by art from a very young age, this multidisciplinary artist — now based in Paris — unfolds her universe at the crossroads of the stage, writing and visual arts.

Trained at IESA, her artistic journey began in her teens with photography. At just 12 years old, she captured her first images in the heart of her family's garden; by 17, her work was already being showcased at the ARTAQ Festival in Angers and at the Photographiques du Mans. An actress, photographer, and writer, she continually enriched her practice until 2020, the year she discovered pastels. It was a true revelation.

Pastel then became her preferred medium of expression, a space for instinct and improvisation. After a quick pencil sketch, the artist allows herself to be guided by pure emotion. She draws on the graphic qualities and infinite palette of the plant world to reinvent forms and exalt colors.

Flowers, the central motif of her work, embody for her the full complexity of existence: an ephemeral beauty, destined to disappear, yet inhabited for a time by a vibrant force. It is precisely this wild and luminous life force that she seeks to capture and convey.

Inspired by the movement and chromatic boldness of great masters such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Niki de Saint Phalle, she readily creates a dialogue between different eras and techniques. Like David Hockney, she also explores digital possibilities by integrating the Procreate app on iPad into her creative process, thus blending the timeless texture of pastel with the tools of our time.
