Biography

Lilian Klapisch is a French-born Israeli artist known for her expressive and distinctive approach to figurative painting. Born near Paris, she studied art at the Académie Ranson and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière before moving to Israel in 1969 and settling in Jerusalem.

Her work combines observation with expressive freedom, often moving between recognizable forms and abstraction. Alongside painting, Klapisch has created an important body of prints, including lithographs, etchings and screenprints.

Her work has received significant recognition in Israel and is held in major museum collections, including the Israel Museum, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Haifa Museum of Art. She received the Sandberg Prize in 1983 and the Minister of Science, Culture and Sport Prize in 2001.
