Biography
Astrid CHHOA's practice has progressively structured itself around a central axis: repetition.
It allows to question the notions of timelessness, transformation, and perception, reveals gaps, variations, and displacements.
Each occurrence, although similar, is inscribed in a dynamic of accumulation that modifies its perception.
Her work thus aims to highlight the capacity of the repetitive to generate difference, to open up spaces for interpretation, and to bring forth multiple realities.
This research is part of a broader reflection on our relationship to reality: what we perceive is never fixed, but always in becoming.
Astrid CHHOA after experimenting with several mediums (watercolor, oil...), currently favors acrylic and wax.
Wax allows her to explore a slow and physical relationship to matter, close to sculptural work, where superposition and transformation play a major role.
Conversely, acrylic offers greater immediacy in gesture, allowing to alternate between speed, transparency, and stratification.
Her work unfolds between abstraction and suggested forms, without prior formal constraint.
Each series constitutes an autonomous field of experimentation, guided by the same question
