Yann Penhouet

Self-taught poster painter living and working in Paris. Always passionate about: art, history, old posters and old paper, my technique is centered on collage. Positioning myself between pop art and street art, I seek above all in my paintings, to create the illusion of being in front of an old poster that one could see at the bend of an alley. My papers are selected, collected, enhanced with paint to be finally glued, unglued and torn on different themes that are close to my heart such as the automobile, pinups, the circus, and the cinema of the 50s & 60s. I always work from a poster with a central theme… a pinup, a car, a motorcycle, an event… that I revisit with extracts from the press or from period advertisements in order to recreate an original and unique work. Between vintage and contemporary, my works cannot help but convey to the public a certain nostalgia while bringing them back to their own history; thus creating a very strong bond between the artist and the public. My sources of inspiration are numerous: Mimmo Rotela, François Dufrêne, Jacques Villeglé and Raymond Hains… For several years, my works have been exhibited in various galleries as well as in numerous exhibitions in France and internationally.
