Zebulon

Zebulon is a young French artist born in 1972 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. From her African childhood, she has kept an interest in the forms of artistic expression that take place there. But Zebulon exercises his curiosity towards all kinds of representations, seeking above all the spontaneity of the gesture and the imaging. She began to make an impression in 2007 by putting forward a figurative and joyful representation of life. Zebulon's universe is resolutely turned towards childhood, towards the innocence which sleeps in us and which only asks to wake up in contact with naive and poetic images. The black outline draws patterns in the style of children, which represent their entire universe using simple lines. Zebulon populates his drawings with a bestiary borrowed from children, fantastic characters, lush and enveloping vegetation. By the use of acidulous and tonic colors, by the use of round shapes, Zebulon's works are both reassuring and seductive. However, Zebulon's universe conceals a double reading: the rich background of images taken from recovered papers, arranged as a watermark, like a storyboard giving the tone, the atmosphere and then the main subject in the foreground, unavoidable and colorful, illustrative and playful style. His work, on the border between singularity and naivety, offers an exalted vision of existence. She seeks to highlight each moment of happiness that we are offered to experience, the most insignificant it may be.
