In 1998, Martine Nicolas took the name of her maternal grandmother as her artist name: she is now known under the name of Souchkine that now appear to the public. For the artist, this reconciliation with her Russian origins is the opportunity to return to her origins, to her inner life and to sobriety.

Her line is expressionist and her composition shows a certain classicism. Antagonist colors coexist to the point where they create simultaneously noise and silence. The glowing reds are echoed by the blue abyss. The mundane and the celebration and loneliness are the two facets of Souchkine's practice.
