Biography

Pierre Boulat was a photographic collaborator of international magazines such as Elle, Paris-Match, Life, National Geographic and People. After his studies at the Vaugirard school, to escape compulsory labor in Germany, he moved to the free zone and was in Vichy at the government's photo service. He began his career in 1945 in the aftermath of World War II in the newspaper Samedi Soir. He was the first Western journalist to enter the USSR in 19552. Pierre Boulat photographed during the 1950s and 1960s, world news, Parisian life, the political world and film artists. In 1973 he became a freelance photographer. He was the father of Alexandra Boulat, photojournalist and reporter, as well as the husband of Annie Boulat, founder and director of Agence Cosmos and of the Pierre and Alexandra Boulat association in order to promote the creative work of her husband and of his daughter. An exhibition at the Petit Palais in Paris, organized by Reporter sans frontières, paid tribute to photographer Pierre Boulat from September 9, 2010 to February 11, 2011.
