Biography

Claude Sauzet was born in 1941 into a family of minors, in the Gard. Graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Nîmes. A soul draftsman, passionate colorist, Claude Sauzet takes part in the great adventure in that he creates, away from any concern for the taste of the day, a work worthy of the name, original, strong, authentic. A work of poetry, whose music awakens the soul and seduces the heart. "Le Provençal", 1979. Cévennes or Camargue landscapes, still lifes (a funny name under the so lively brush), or daring nudes in their composition seduce the eye which is made of vigorous, flourishing contrasts. “Le Parisien”, 1983. We let ourselves be seduced by the smoothness and exaltation of its palette, but also by the sumptuousness of its paste and the elegance of its forms. “La tribune - Vichy”, 1985. Its palette, vibrant and warm, seduces. Its underlying nervous line blends with sensual material. Claude Sauzet now appears to be the most reliable representative of the Mediterranean School. “Gazette des tribunals du Midi”, 1993. Claude Sauzet's work is essentially concerned with the representation of the life of the characters that can be found in everyday life. He likes to paint the intimacy of the house, the streets, the markets, the café terraces, the circus, the carnival. His fame has gone beyond the borders of France and his paintings are in demand in Japan and the United States. “Midi Libre”, 2005. The intensive profusion of the decorations, the precision of its line, the balance between the plans and subtleties of the nuances, all combine to reveal a universe in perpetual birth, at the same time mobile and moving. “Univers des Arts”, 2005. Sun, the first word that comes to mind when you look at a painting by Sauzet… Since his first exhibition in Paris in 1969, his paintings have traveled: Africa, New Caledonia, Morocco, Japan, United States… - “Arts Actualités Magazine”, 2005. The singularity of the atmospheres and the originality of the writing allowed this magician of color to find a special place in the contemporary artistic universe. And each canvas is a continuation of the work of this painter who, since his first Parisian exhibition in 1969, has been able to forge an international career. "Arts News Magazine", 2009
