Biography

Born in 1958 in La Courneuve, in a family of Italians from Tunisia, Isabelle Marsala settles in Montpellier at the age of 18, a camera in hand. In the 1980s, she runs Vinyl, a record store and independent label, for which she creates covers, posters, and rock photos.

In 1988, she chose to dedicate herself to painting. She co-founded Atelier du Garage in 1994, a place for exchange between artists in Montpellier, and then opened her studio, LePetitAlbert, in 2015. For about ten years, she painted in acrylic on large photographic prints of women, before switching, starting in 1999, to oil and pigments on Japanese paper mounted on canvas.

Her painting, figurative but little narrative, is populated by female faces with large eyes, through series such as "Mes voisines" (My Neighbors), "Monde parfait" (Perfect World), or "Méditerranée chérie" (Beloved Mediterranean). She has nourished her work with residencies in Romania, Cuba, China, Morocco, Java, or Italy.
