Jean-Michel Alberola

Jean-Michel Alberola, born in 1953 in Saïda, Algeria, is a major French artist of his generation. Based in France since 1962, he lives and works in Paris.

A multidisciplinary artist, he explores painting, engraving, sculpture and photography, creating a protean work between figuration, abstraction and conceptual art. Associated with the Free Figuration movement in the 1980s, he stands out for the depth and diversity of his questions.

His works, mixing humor and poetry, address themes such as the fragility of beauty, the ambiguity of the gaze, the role of the artist and the ends of art. Committed, he does not hesitate to challenge the viewer on political and social issues.

Professor at the Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1991 to 2018, he passed on his passion and knowledge to many students. Represented by the Daniel Templon gallery, his works are present in prestigious public and private collections, testifying to his recognition on the international artistic scene.
