Presentation

Marc Emile Léon Couturier was born in 1946 in Mirebeau-sur-Beze (Côte-d'Or).

It's already the beginning of a story. A story of "revelation", of how he "stumbled" across things and then displayed them without making any changes. Framed samples put on a shelf, photographed and then identically reproduced, juxtaposed, combined...
An aucuba leaf acts as a stained glass, a plasterboard after floods namely (la « Fuite de Françoise, la voisine du dessus »), "a plastic pouch where a document remained for a long time and was found in the sea".

A simple stroll in the city of Amiens takes a whole new meaning when you come across a home of any Tom, Dick and Harry.

He stimulates people to think and reflect about what happens when our alertness goes further than our expectations. Even landscapes aren't treated as nature but as a creation. Marc Couturier sees the world like an accumulation of images, a sample or a drawing is inspired through music, or at least what is left of it but portrays them as little miracles.

His public collections: Collections publiques : Centre Pompidou, MNAM, Paris; Fonds national d'art contemporain, Paris; Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris; FRAC Alsace; FRAC Auvergne; FRAC Île de France; FRAC Limousin; FRAC des Pays de la Loire; FRAC Picardie; FRAC Rhône Alpes.
