Biography

Leslie Berthet Laval is a French contemporary painter born in 1975 in Lyon. Passionate about painting from a young age, she created her first canvas at the age of three and received her first commission before adolescence. Graduated in interior architecture in 1996, she developed a solid mastery of drawing, perspective, and color before working for nearly twenty years as a decorative painter and restorer of historical monuments. She has notably participated in the restoration of prestigious sites such as the Apollon Gallery at the Louvre museum, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, as well as many castles and religious buildings in the Rhône-Alpes region.

In parallel with this activity, Leslie Berthet Laval pursues a career as an independent artist. Her work, influenced by expressionism, is distinguished by a work around light, movement, and material. She explores both urban landscapes and abstract compositions, developing series such as “marine cities", which question contemporary environmental issues, or “angels", where emotion prevails over representation. Her pictorial universe rests on a subtle balance between energy, poetry, and chromatic intensity.

Working mainly in mixed media, the artist combines acrylic paint, spray paint, gold or silver leaves, resin, as well as original applications of syringe paint, creating effects of relief, transparency, and light. Her compositions, made with a brush, knife, and controlled drips, offer a visual experience where material becomes a living element of the work. Her work on stainless steel further reinforces this interaction between color, reflections, and the viewer's gaze.

Throughout her career, Leslie Berthet Laval has exhibited in many contemporary art fairs and galleries in France and internationally. She has notably participated in Art in Capital at the Grand Palais in Paris (2010), the Shanghai World Expo (2010), the Art Shopping Salon at the Carrousel du Louvre (2011), the Art3f Salon in Lyon (2015), as well as numerous contemporary art fairs and personal exhibitions. Her works are now permanently displayed in several French and European galleries.

Today, Leslie Berthet Laval pursues an artistic research where color, light, material, and emotion dialogue in compositions that are both expressive and contemporary. Her work, which combines technical mastery, plastic innovation, and sensitivity, establishes itself as a singular contribution to French contemporary painting, captivating collectors and art lovers with her luminous and deeply personal universe.
