Marina Mardas is a transdisciplinary artist of Lebanese descent born in 1992. She lives and works in Paris. Through her work she aims to do a long-term organic research around society and what makes us Human. Her Lebanese roots as well as her Sociology academical background gave her a sharp vision of our contemporary world. Her approach oscillates between the individual and the collective and her main themes revolve around Memory, Time and the Cosmos.
She mainly uses new media but doesn’t limit herself to that : installations, music, performance and writing are also part of her work. Questioning the world in a rhizomatic way rather than binary, her artworks are always dancing poetically with a dystopian vision of the world but yet merge to questions that could lead us to see the light of an utopia.
Marina’s aesthetic is mainly composed of very contrasted black and white that resonates with the dichotomy that the utopia and dystopia implies. The structure and the lines are an important part of her work as they shape and reflect the organisation of her thoughts. She is mostly influenced by postmodern and postcolonial theories, brutalist architecture and experimental music. The esoteric world of symbols, numbers and geometrical forms is also an everlasting source of inspiration for her.
