Biography

Muriel is first of all a technician. Thinking about painting is not a priority. Her references are in the Louvre and there is often a part of mythology in her paintings.

Located in Brittany since 2005, Muriel Louette confronts with what she has before her, figures and landscapes. "When I paint the harbour, I see romantic Italian ruins, like those painted by Hubert Robert. I see buried cities falling apart. Each painting is like a portrait, I start from an element, and I turn around. It’s like writing, in a sense.”

When it comes to painting a portrait: "Sometimes there is a gift of the person, whose whole being is there, of great beauty and great accuracy. It’s very rare. I don’t look at the person overall. I always start with the left eye, and then I paint every element of the face as I go along, like a puzzle, and it creates lags”.

Muriel graduated at the Beaux Arts de Paris in 1999. She now teaches at the Beaux Arts de Lorient.
