Mathias Magnus Le Forestier is a French painter and photographer artist, born on 16th January 1973 in Chateaubriant. Since 2011 he has been living and working in Tangier, Morocco. In 2012, he opened the Photo Loft gallery with his wife Alexandra Guyot.
He grew up in the artistic world as his mother is a photographer and father a painter, he has been fascinated by artistic expressions under all its forms. He began painting at the age of 18. He is influenced by several elements, his own father but also Paul Rambié, Vladimir Velikovic, Igor Ustinov, François-Xavier Lalanne, Pierre Soust, Jean-Marie Poumeyrol, César, Mika Valck or even Gérard Garouste.
At the age of 22, he exhibited in Paris Chez Etienne de Causans, Rue de Seine. He suddenly stopped painting at the age of 26 and took up painting again, but only 17 years later, in 2015 in Tangiers.
An abstract painter, he mixes his unique techniques, combining accidental gestures and material " My painting is like a constant vociferation, he says, like a silent cry".
While painting he also simultaneously practices photography. Paradis degré zéro in 2014 was his first photo exhibition. He describes Tangiers in his own unique manner.
For his second exhibition, De la neige in 2016, Mathias Magnus presents us a theme through his photos, which is poetic and absurd. His desire: deform the human and nature's image.
