Biography

Graduated from the ne art school of Bordeaux in 2014 where she practiced video, performance and installation art, Jessica Hartley, today known as Rouge, has been obsessed with painting and painting since then. As a total artist, she is interested in urban space as a place of intervention as well as a source of inspiration. Her pictorial work is both narrative and graphic. Through her paintings, Rouge tells stories in which viewers can easily project their own intimacy.

Listless characters with languid bodies in private settings, on a bed or on the floor, covered or surrounded by non-ostentatious yet delicately patterned folded fabrics. Viewers are invited to immerge in the poetical and intimate world contained in these beautifully executed oil paintings, in which emotions seem held back. The work of emerging artist Rouge is already well known in Bordeaux and the area. Following her outstanding interventions at the submarine base and an exhibition dedicated to female artists at the Institut culturel Bernard Magre, another show of her works was held at the Château Labottière at the end of 2019.
