Shadi Morshed is a professional calligrapher and painter, born in 1985 in Homs, Syria. He produced calligraphic paintings which combine the two arts: painting and calligraphy since 2007 and it was in 2011 that he moved to France.
He became interested in the art of Arabic calligraphy and began painting calligraphic paintings as an amateur in 2002. It was in 2006 that he discovered this art in its academic form at the School of Fine Arts. in Damascus. Since then, calligraphy has become one of its main forms of expression.
Holder of a diploma in plastic arts (University of Damascus), he chose France to continue his higher studies in the field of art. He moved to Rennes where he obtained his master's in plastic arts from the University of Rennes 2 and since then he has held exhibitions and calligraphic workshops in all the cultural places of the city and its agglomeration.
The artist sets herself apart with her own philosophy of the art of Arabic calligraphy. According to him, this art is based on principles and rules which are the basis of its openness and its capacity for infinite development of chromatic and formal possibilities. These are its distinctive features, among which are proportion, harmony, plant, geometric or calligraphic patterns, variation and combination. It's a way of thinking about space in its aesthetic realization.
So, it aims to unveil the art of Arabic calligraphy and show the beauty of each of its styles and forms, free it from the limits imposed by tradition and take it out of the classical framework, simplify this art so that it be clear to everyone and find new contemporary techniques.
Residing in France, he has participated in numerous workshops and exhibitions !
