Biography

Christian Neel is a contemporary painter, born in Cannes on 15 August 1960. At the age of 7, he tried his hand at drawing. At the age of 12, his father gave him his first easel. During his art classes, his teacher, Mr Berton, believed in his talent and pushed him to paint. Afterwards, Christian Neel studied at the Arts Décoratifs de Nice before freeing himself from the codes of painting and finding his own way.

Inspired by the luminosity and colours of the Côte d'Azur, Christian Neel draws on his subconscious to render his visions, his travels and his encounters on canvas. His painting is described as lyrical abstraction, a combination of figurative and abstract forms and colours, a journey between dream and reality.

Following exhibitions in galleries in the region, Christian Neel opened his first gallery in Monaco in 1992, then in St Paul de Vence. He then exhibited in Paris on the Place des Vosges, then in New York, in St Martin in the Caribbean, in Japan, in Italy, in Switzerland...

Recently, Christian Neel has been expressing himself on a new medium: "Les Profils de Neel". An original oil on wood, painted on both sides. The cut-outs represent a feminine and coloured profile, which can be found in his latest paintings.
