Shallman Quashie

Shallman QUASHIE was born in 1974 in Accra, the capital of Ghana in West Africa. Passionate about drawing since his early childhood, Shallman is nonetheless a self-taught artist who has always aimed to fill the void of a sheet or canvas.

In 2001, he moved to England where he stopped painting to integrate a different way of life. A few years and several trips across Europe later, he rediscovered an interest in art by visiting several museums and art galleries. In 2007, he therefore resumed painting intermittently and then decided in 2018 to make painting his main activity.

Shallman himself defines his style of afro-expressionism art. His paintings defy categorization, he paints freely, freed from all codes and all movements, navigating from basic still life to a complex abstract realization according to his inspiration of the moment.

He sees the practice of any art as a means of self-expression, freedom, life and imagination. Painting teaches him to move forward as an artist but also as a man.

For some time now Shallman QUASHIE has been exploring what he calls African spiritualism, where dream logic and eroticism blend. Shallman's creative journey navigates between times of turmoil and phases of over-enthusiasm.

Now mastering many techniques and mediums, he varies his productions using the roller, his hands, knives or brushes, charcoal, pastel and acrylic, always on canvas.
