Ilya Gefter

Ilya Gefter (born 1980, St. Petersburg, Russia) is a contemporary figurative artist based in Israel since 2004.
He received his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and studied at York University and Studio Art Centers International in Florence. In 2015, he completed a figuration course with Antonio López García in Spain. Gefter works across painting and drawing, focusing on the human figure, space, and light within contemporary figurative practice. His solo exhibitions have been presented internationally, including “Front" at Tel Aviv Artists House (2024) and “Family Album" at the Knesset Education and
Culture Committee (Jerusalem, 2021). His work has also been shown at the Tel
Aviv Museum of Art and Yale University.
A recipient of multiple awards, including two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation
Grants, he founded the Visual Art Center Tel Aviv in 2015, where he serves as Director and Head Instructor. His works are held in major public and private collections, including the Library of Congress.
