Presentation

Ofir Dor is a painter, a native of Israel residing in Berlin since 2007. The history of art —apart from the esoteric and symbolism— as a repository of works and ideas with which to work, is a constant in the pictorial practice of the artist.

In his paintings abound not only references to Arcadian landscapes or an idealized rural nature, but also to works by Pierre Bonnard, Van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Cezanne, Gericault and Rubens, as well as certain scopic mechanisms of relationship of the audience with the painting. Color and gesture are the main formal elements in Ofir Dor's paintings. Thick impasto, broad and loose brushstrokes encompass the whole picture.

Focused on the human figure, the artist uses intuitive and free-form pictorial gestures. The range of colors tends to be varied and expressive. He graduated from his art studies at the Bezalel Academy in Israel, in 2004, and three years later he had a large solo show at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
