Biography

Aldo Rossi (1931 - 1997) was one of the most influential architects and theorists of the 20th century. Known for his deeply intellectual and poetic approach, Rossi was the first Italian to receive the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1990. His architectural work, writings, and industrial design including his iconic La Conica espresso maker for Alessi combine metaphysical aesthetics, rationalism, and a reverence for memory and place. Rossi's drawings are celebrated not only for their function in design but also for their distinct artistic merit. *** Aldo Rossi works are part of leading institutional collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the MAXXI in Rome. His original drawings are highly prized for their poetic sensitivity and significance within both architecture and contemporary design history.
