Among the many definitions of Art, the one I find most illuminating is this: To seek to make perceptible something that would otherwise remain unobservable, that which does not appear.

Biography
Luigi Festa is an Italian contemporary artist born in Rome in 1954. A descendant of the Roman painter Pietro Gagliardi (Rome, 1809–1890), Festa developed his artistic practice within a tradition deeply rooted in Italian art and culture.
He studied under Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri and was influenced by the artistic environment of Renato Guttuso. After graduating from the Artistic High School in Rome in 1971, he obtained a degree in Architecture in 1977 under the guidance of architect Maurizio Sacripanti, with whom he collaborated until 1984 on important architectural projects in Forlì and Maccagno.
His architectural background has profoundly influenced his artistic language, particularly his approach to space, structure, proportion and form. Alongside his artistic activity, Festa worked for many years as a designer, works director and technical inspector, while also creating graphic projects and exhibition installations. Among these are the logo for the 1985 Volleyball World Championships, now the official trademark of the Italian Volleyball Federation, and the exhibition space for the Italian National Roads Authority at the 2001 World Tunnel Congress in Milan.
From 1998 to 2004, he participated in the “Itinerarios de Arte” exhibitions at El Catalejo Gallery in Marbella. His work has also been exhibited in Milan at the former Richard Ginori space, the Falzone Gallery and Mihotel.
In 2022, his sculpture was awarded first prize in the Hitherm Sculpture Competition in Agliè by a jury chaired by Vittorio Sgarbi. In 2023, Festa was selected among the twenty finalists of the Luigi Candiani Prize – Established Artists, participating in the finalists’ exhibition at SAC – Spazio Arte Contemporanea in 2024.
Three of his works were selected for HUMAN RIGHTS, an international contemporary art exhibition curated by Roberto Ronca in Rovereto in 2024. At the end of the same year, his proposal for an artwork for the Teatro alla Scala Foundation in Milan ranked 11th among 67 participants, with a jury including Mario Botta and Maurizio Cattelan recognizing its overall quality and artistic originality.
Festa’s work explores the dialogue between art, architecture and spatial design, combining his architectural training with a continuing investigation into contemporary artistic form.
