Mie Okubo

Japan

"Through my work, I seek to capture the invisible flow of time and the emotional traces it contains. Each brushstroke marks the trace of a fleeting emotion."

Biography

Originally from Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture. She discovered calligraphy at the age of 8 and obtained her master calligrapher diploma at 28.

Since 2012, she has been training with bokusho artist Gen Miyamura, exploring calligraphy as a visual art. She also delves deeper into traditional calligraphy techniques, including kana calligraphy, under the tutelage of Shuko Abe.

In 2023, her encounter with contemporary artist Naoshi Yamamoto marked a turning point: she began to develop a practice of calligraphy as a conceptual art.

Today, alongside her creative work, she runs an interior calligraphy workshop, works as an event host, designs logos and produces calligraphy work for universities.
