Leonard Ngure

Kenya  • 1977

Presentation

Leonard Ngure, born in 1977, studied art and design at the YMCA Shaun Moyo Institute in Nairobi (Kenya) from 1996 to 1998. Later he was a student of the legendary artist Joseph Bertiers.

Leonard participated in numerous exhibitions within Kenya, such as at the Goethe-Institut, during the Malindi Biennial and at the Banana Hill Art Gallery.

The focus of his paintings is on the everyday chaos of life: market scenes, traffic chaos, crowds of people. It goes up and down, the viewer needs time to grasp the essentials first. The scenery is often framed by shops, hotels, pubs and clubs, while the sky is filled with helicopters and airplanes. Ngures works are very direct and remind us of our children's coloring books, which everyone remembers with a smile.
