Mexico • 1998

Through vibrant figurative painting, Eliel David Martínez Julián explores identity, memory, and the tensions between personal experience and contemporary society.

Biography

Eliel David Martínez Julián (Oaxaca, Mexico, 1998) is a visual artist whose practice spans painting, textiles, installation, and relational art. He lives and works between Mexico and Italy. After studying at the School of Fine Arts of Oaxaca, he obtained both his Bachelor’s degree (2021) and Master’s degree (2023) from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice.

His artistic language is characterized by the use of painted canvas fragments, fabrics, cut textiles, and reclaimed materials, assembled into fluid compositions where geometric forms, vivid chromatic fields, and suggestive figures coexist in dynamic balance. Through bright colors and tactile surfaces, Martínez Julián develops a visual vocabulary that moves between abstraction and figuration, exploring identity, memory, and social narratives.

Martínez Julián’s research is deeply informed by personal experience, Mexican cultural realities, and contemporary socioeconomic transformations, while maintaining a poetic and non-didactic approach. In recent years, his practice has increasingly evolved toward participatory and interactive installations, where the relationship between artwork, audience, and creative process becomes central.

He has collaborated with several international galleries and institutions, including Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Wizard Gallery, and Gallerie Riunite. Selected exhibitions and projects include MURI E VOLI (Wizard Gallery, Milan, 2025), CHROMA (Gallerie Riunite, Naples, 2024), JUEGOS DE MATERIA: NEBLINA Y COLOR (Mexico City, 2023), and SOTTO SOPRA (Ether Gallery, Mexico City, 2022).

Throughout his career, he has participated in international residency programs and received several awards, including the residency at Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa and the The Creative Room #3 “Navigating the City” award in Venice in 2023.
