Roland Art

ROLAND ART is a pop art artist born in Utrecht. He spent his childhood with many animals which gave him the desire to represent them and create his imaginary world. When he was very young, he was often seen at his neighbours' farm with a herd of 85 dairy cows and many cats, some of them very old.

At home it was a refuge for sick and injured animals and especially for water birds. Roland's greatest joy was when the birds were released back into the wild and he felt like one of them, dreaming of flying away to freedom to join his imaginary world.

From an early age he drew and painted, in 1995 he started to create his first wooden cats with the famous bird on their tails. Cats are his favourite animals, but also cows, birds, flowers and hearts. All these works are unique and made with a lot of care and love. It is hard work, sometimes a struggle, but art flows through her veins.

The titles that arise during the creation of a work have their own language, Roland tries to find words that do not yet exist.

"I love wood. The basic smell of wood does my brain good. That smell is the engine. Having wood in my hands is my passion and making a cat with all its round shapes makes my heart overflow with joy."
