Biography

Jacek Rykala is a Polish painter, poet, he was born in Sosnowiec on the 1st of September, 1950. He graduated from the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts,Faculty of Graphic Arts in Katowice in 1976 and later became professor and vice-education officer. The artist has excelled in painting, poetry and staging.

His paintings are a true portrayal of diligent expertise of light: chiaroscuro, play on shadows, shades of colors are ways for him to achieve the masterly skills of painting. Jacek Rykala delivers a painting lesson, where perspective and light are able to attain nobility. In the introduction of his exhibition catalog, his professor Andrzej Pietsch highlights a "lost paradise..." where Rykala paints "the rest", "the relics". The artist cuts " the frames of old windows, lost in a horde of courts".

His works are exhibited around the world, and have surpassed about sixty solo exhibitions, 1988 onward in Warsaw, passing through Krakow, France, Germany, Netherlands and Austria...Simultaneously, from 1976 until 2013, his work became part of more than 300 group exhibitions (Jeune expression at Grand Palais in 1983, Arts Festival in Moscow, 1988)...During the years 1989-1996, his work was exhibited at the Art Fair in Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo and London. They are now present in national museums, and belong to the private collection. His prolific work was awarded by tens of distinctions: the golden cross by the Polish president Lech Walesa, first prize during the national competition in Painting at Katowice (1980), international Kunstbiennale prize « Seetal » in Switzerland (1985)...Eight films have depicted the portrait of this fertile artist.
