Biography
MARIA FERNANDA AMADO (1924 - ): Maria Fernanda Amado is a Portuguese painter whose career has been closely associated with the Lisbon art scene since the 1960s. Born in 1924, she developed a style rooted in classical painting while incorporating a modern approach to the simplification and expressive treatment of forms and color. Her work often depicts figures, street scenes, flowers, still lifes, landscapes, and everyday life, rendered with a strong sensitivity to color, light, and atmosphere. Amado exhibited at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes in Lisbon from 1965 onward and held solo exhibitions at the Galeria de São Francisco in Lisbon in 1983, 1985, and 1986. Critics have noted affinities with Cézanne in her structural treatment of space and with artists such as Vlaminck and Nicolas de Staël in her use of expressive color. Her paintings have been exhibited and collected internationally and are represented in museums, galleries, and private collections in Portugal and abroad.
