Capturing fleeting moments, giving them density and edge
Tatiana Sarukhanova is a painter who also works in graphics. Her works are born from observations, highlighted by the vivid, lively emotions of the observer. A major theme for Tatyana is to preserve and capture a fleeting moment, immersing it in the picture plane. To achieve this, she employs a monumental approach in her painting, while her choice of genre leans towards psychological symbolism. This combination creates a sense of "Stop, moment, you are so fair!" and evokes a desire to delve deeper into the details of the worlds created by the artist.
Her subjects arise from an interest in how the ordinary holds emotional depth. The city, home, a walk, a child's game provide material for a conversation about memory and a person's internal weather. Reality in her works shifts towards experience: the feeling of an environment is more important than its literal description. Dialogue becomes the main format—as a way of being for the characters, objects, and the artist's own perspective within the pictorial plane. She is interested in the relationships between people, objects, inner states, and the external environment—how a place leaves its mark and enters personal history. The artist seems to mold volumes, sculpting time and space, giving the moment density, edge, and stability.
Her practice develops in Moscow and Sochi, while exhibition work in Berlin, Venice, and Greece expands her range of subjects and states. For Tatyana, it is important to "leaf through" places and times, to experience them as a sequence of impressions, to let them mature, in order to then fix them in an image.
