Biography
Jernej Forbici is a Slovenian painter, born in 1980 in Maribor, Slovenia. He graduated from the Visual Arts School in Ljubljana and the Fine Arts school in Venice. He lives and works between Venice, Berlin and Ptuj. He represents not only the young generation of Slovenian art, but also European Art, due to his experience in several countries. Jernel's landscapes revolves around themes like space and air, whether it's through the form of a real landscape or simply a feeling of space, with fictitious volumes and distances. He explores the problem of a lonely human being in the universe.
All his paintings are different but have a common point of portraying destruction of the wild nature and addresses the conscience of people and their responsibilities. He uses big and small formats, by skilfully reflecting the slightest details of the landscape. He compiles the classic Venusian tradition of painting with contemporary techniques and styles. One can find the nervousness of existential questions that he asks. Several of his paintings also depict Slovenian landscape, a region called Halda, which is extremely polluted, due to bauxite mining. One can also perceive abandoned landscapes with ancient signs of human presence, moreover the canvas is symbolically "polluted", with reference to the ecological problem of the region.
